Bid to halt gay marriage in California denied
August 15th, 2013

(Sacramento Bee) The California Supreme Court today declined to hear arguments in a suit brought by Proposition 8 proponents to halt gay marriage in California.

The suit, filed July 12 by Folsom attorney Andrew Pugno, had also requested an emergency stay to keep the state`s clerk recorders from issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples. The court ruled within days not to issue that injunction.

Same-sex marriage resumed in California on June 28, days after the U.S. Supreme Court refused to review a lower court decision saying that Proposition 8, the voter-approved ban on gay marriage, was unconstitutional.
